The Eurasian steppe is a vast dryland experiencing rapid environmental and development challenges. Focusing on the Gobi Desert region of Mongolia and China, this talk introduces past and present dynamics in the region. This tracks climate variability, political and population trends and focuses on nomadic livelihoods and environments. We take a short trip to a faraway world entering today’s global digital world.
