Effective mechanisms to address new governance challenges in European rural areas – 8 de novembro

The Horizon 2020 projects ‘Sustainable Hub to Engage into Rural Policies with Actors’ (SHERPA; 862448) and ‘Future Oriented Collaborative Policy Development for Rural Areas and People’ (PoliRural; 818496) will jointly organise the workshop ‘Effective mechanism to address new governance challenges in European rural areas as a side event in the framework of the European Week of Regions and Cities 2022 on Tuesday 8 November between 15:00 – 16:30 CET.

Regional administrations operate in a context of continuous disruption, and must respond on many more fronts to many more issues than ever before. More needs to be done to improve the articulation of this response by EU, Member States, regional and sub-regional actors to the Green Deal, CAP Reform, and Biodiversity. Rural areas also face additional challenges in that the EU has only recently developed a vision and policy for rural areas that significantly goes beyond agriculture and forestry, which has been encapsulated in the Long-Term Vision for Rural Areas. The Horizon 2020 projects SHERPA and PoliRural have defined these challenges and demonstrated innovative approaches to local policy and programming which may accelerate progress in achieving the Long-Term Vision for Rural areas.

This virtual work will provide a platform for capacity-building, learning, exchanging experiences and good practice, with the aim to understand pathways of a green transition across Europe’s regions. Speakers will come from Multi-Actor Platforms and Regional Foresight Exercises of SHERPA and POLIRURAL respectively, representing policy, science and civil society at different levels of governance. They will share perspectives on visions for rural areas and solutions to overcoming barriers for achievement by 2040.

Register now to not miss out on this great event!
