Webinar: EU nears 15 year glyphosate re-approval based on flawed industry hazard data – 26 de novembro

A new scientific analysis by renowned experts in genetic toxicology shows that glyphosate manufacturers have provided EU authorities with unreliable and incomplete genotoxicity studies that fail to prove that their pesticide is safe. More than six years after IARC, the WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer, concluded that glyphosate is “probably carcinogenic to humans”, and there is “strong evidence” that it is genotoxic, EU authorities are looking likely to extend glyphosate’s permit once more based on shoddy science.

Prof. Siegfried Knasmüller will explain how his research shows that the quality and validity of the manufacturers’ genotoxicity studies are insufficient to demonstrate that glyphosate is not DNA damaging.

Drs. Burtscher and Lyssimachou will provide context and answer questions regarding the EU glyphosate re-approval process, and the legal requirements for approval.

Health and environmental NGOs behind the successful European Citizen Initiative (ECI) “Stop Glyphosate” are calling on the European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) to take into account these new findings in the ongoing assessment procedure of glyphosate. The analysis was commissioned by SumOfUs, a global community of millions committed to ensuring corporations and governments prioritize people and planet over profit.
