The OIV participated for the first time in the Conference of Parties of UNFCCC, after being granted an observer status at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. This status is in line with the 2020-2024 OIV Strategic Plan and its key objectives, guided by the challenges the international vitivinicultural sector is facing, but also by a desire to integrate the 2030 perspectives of the Sustainable Development Goals elaborated under the aegis of the United Nations.
In this 27th Conference of Parties of UNFCCC meeting held at Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, the OIV Director General, Pau Roca, addressed the High Level Segment of Heads of Delegations on 16 November 2022. Thanking the UNFCCC for granting the OIV an observer status, Pau Roca stressed that “viticultors have been fully affected during the last 40 years by the acceleration of climate change”, reminding that “delocalisation is not an option for these farmers”.
