Today, Eurostat launched a new webpage on geospatial data from agricultural census as part of our experimental statistics collection. Users can find maps with information about number of farms, livestock density, ageing of farmers or gender gap in agriculture, among others. All the data refers to the year 2020.
The data released under the new experimental statistics combines geographical information with official agricultural statistics, allowing users to gain a better understanding of farm data collected through the 2020 agricultural census.
The data is experimental as it is the first attempt to release geospatial data from agricultural census on European scale. This innovative approach produces grids to display agricultural data such as farm size, livestock, or labour force at a very detailed spatial level. The smallest grid cell is 1 square kilometre in size, and the methodology, which was specifically developed for treating the agricultural census data, ensures that no confidential information from individual farms is disclosed.
Users can explore the data (zooming in and out, selecting different layers or download the data files) using the interactive statistical map designed by the Geographic information system of the Commission.
