Penha Longa Resort is a world-class venue, built inside Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, with a five star hotel and 2 golf courses and 27 holes, where “Open the Portugal” and European Tour competitions made history.
Penha Longa is looking for a full-time Greenkeeper to oversee the maintenance of the spectacular 27 holes facilities designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr.
The Greenkeeper will work under guidance and supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent .
Greenkeeper main duties and responsibilities:
• Daily management of personnel, enforcing all company regulations and policies;
• Manage the golf courses and the green keeping team as directed by Hotel Management;
• Proactivity, ability to work under pressure in a team environment, but independently with good decision-making and communication skills;
• Adaptability to different challenges and openness to help with different tasks in other departments
• Advise, work closely and coordinate with the Golf Course Superintendent to operate the Golf Course in a financially, environmentally responsible and professional manner;
• Maintain a professional and welcoming approach all times when dealing with Golf Club Members, Hotel Guests and Visitors;
• Skills in recruiting, supervising, training, evaluating and motivating personnel;
• Knowledge of the game of golf and golf rules;
• Carry out turf maintenance trough the establishment of schedules and programs of annual, monthly, weekly and daily maintenance, witch maximize efficiency at the golf course;
• Knowledge of management of both cool and warm season grasses;
• Plan and manage the control of weeds, pests and diseases;
• Knowledge of use and operating standards of equipment and tools used in golf course construction and maintenance;
• Manage the preparation of machines for use;
• Manage maintenance of machines closely with golf Mechanic, using Transcendent Maintenance program;
• Manage and maintain Irrigation and drainage systems working close to Irrigation Manager;
• TORO site pro software knowledge;
• Manage and conduct the construction/renovation projects, including the underway bunker renovation;
• Knowledge of safe use, mixing and application of chemicals and fertilizers;
• Supervise the landscaping team maintenance works in all Hotel and Palace surroundings;
• Ability to anticipate personnel, equipment, and material requirements.
Minimum Qualifications:
• 3-5 years’ experience as Greenkeeper or Greenkeeper assistant;
• Agronomy Degree or equivalent;
• Advanced computer skills required for financial reporting and control of operations, including use of Microsoft Office;
• Valid Driver’s License;
• Pesticide Application License;
• Speak, write and converse freely in English.
